A Pretty Big Day

Apply for a Chinese language course at National Taiwan University (NTU), check.

Buy a round-trip plane ticket for the US, check.

One year of blogging recorded, check.

All in a day’s work…

I had a pretty big day today. MoMo’s church was doing a testimony-sharing time at the NTU Hospital (incidentally the same college that I applied for language learning at later this evening), and she invited me to go and share a song. Ironically, I played them “Your Love Is Like Your Patience” (you know, patience, patients… sorry). Got to talk and pray with some of the doctors/nurses afterwards and it was a very sweet time. This local missionary doctor who could only speak Taiwanese (not even Mandarin Chinese, thank God for MoMo Tseng’s interpreting) gave me a CD of her songs and wanted to pray for my family.

Please Pray!

  • Please pray for the patients who attended the gospel sharing time tonight. Pray that God touches their hearts and heals them both inside and out.
  • Please pray for the doctors and nurses there. They are a light in the darkness, and a Christian doctor is a rare blessing. Pray for Min Hui (sounds like ‘mean hway’) and the other lady who gave me the CDs. Pray for Min Hui’s family to know Jesus.
  • Praise God for the gift of being able to interpret from one language to the next, and that MoMo can use this for God’s glory. Thank God for all the other people there who are bilingual, and pray that they’d use their gifts to spread the gospel in this dying world.

I was finally able to sit down and fill out the online application for a college called, in Chinese, Shi Da, (or NTU). I have been waiting to do this because along with a copy of my diploma and all the regular things, I also had to show that I had the equivalent of $2500 USD in a bank account somewhere, and so I had to wait til I had that. But that is the money I was so excited to tell you all that I had gotten, so no worries! God provides, and he has perfect timing.

The fall semester begins Sept. 5th and ends in the end of Nov. Depending on timing, I may choose to do the winter semester, or wait til the spring, which starts up again in March. God will show me where to go. After that I plan to do at least a full year of classes and hopefully get a certificate or something.

Please Pray!

  • Please pray for financial wisdom. This is the first time I’ve had to pay for schooling, and I’m paying my own way for this semester. Pray that God will provide me with enough money from somewhere to continue classes in the winter/spring.
  • Please pray for ministry opportunities at the college. I am seriously so excited to share Jesus to the college students there!! And now I can practice doing it in Chinese, too!
  • Please pray for housing. I and a local missionary named Sweetie are looking for a place to stay and rent together, as well as possibly some other Envision/Aroma people.

A little notification thing showed me that it has officially been one year since I started skyebirdonthefly, and I thought it might be interesting to you to get a blast from the past from one of my earliest posts.  Only God knew I would be who I am today, after all this year has brought me!

Please Pray!

  • Please pray for me. I’m a little nervous– I know I’ve changed a lot this year, and I know my family will be very excited to see me, but also experience a little awkwardness as they ‘get to know me’ again. Pray for wisdom in how to process the endings and the new beginnings, and for grace with my family and friendships.
  • Pray for smooth sailing in the skies and for protection of my flights, the times, and the luggage that I take.
  • Pray for God encounters, and that I’d be willing to be interrupted by God during my travels. He often uses flights to bring people to Christ.

Thank God for a great year.

Tomorrow is also my birthday, so happy birthday to me. I will be 23! God gave me a really cool birthday gift: Eva asked for a half-day at work just for me! I was already planing on spending the afternoon with MoMo doing language exchange and then she’s going to take me to get my ears pierced in Ximen, but now Eva will also join us! They have not been able to meet because of crazy schedules, but now on this day, they have the chance. I feel blessed! 🙂

God is faithful. He is good. He is loving.

Keep the Faith with me!

For Coffee Talk last Friday, we played a life-sized version of "Where's Waldo" in the Ximen shopping district!

On Sunday the Envision interns had a BBQ for lunch to say goodbye to Michael, Matt, and me. Here is Michael, who aside from being a great friend and housemate is also an awesome elder brother to Kennedy.

  1. Happy birthday! And thanks for sharing all of this. You’re right about wanting to ease back “home” carefully and knowing there will be some intense reverse culture shock and you’ll probably have tense or weird moments with friends and fam… I would love to plan a call when you’re back so we can talk through some of that together?? There’s also some good processing and debriefing materials in the dropbox… Plus I’m sure Jesse will be doing some great exit stuff with you.. Blessings on you as you finish strong! sarah
